South Australia's giant-killing sprinter Gytrash will contest this year's Everest after receiving a slot in the $15 million race from Inglis.

Adelaide trainer Gordon Richards hasn't hidden his desire to get his stable star into the race at Royal Randwick on October 17 and was thrilled his horse had finally secured a spot in the race.

Gytrash has enjoyed a meteoric rise through racing's sprinting ranks, enjoying a breakout autumn which saw him with the Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning and place in another three Group 1s.

"To come from benchmark race in Adelaide battling away, and then the autumn took us a fair way and this is another step again," Richards said.

"I don't know whether it's sunk in for the owners yet. Everyone talks (saying) they're looking for a slot in The Everest so that someone hears you and takes you up on it.

"But we realised there's only 12 slots there and a lot of owners have their own horses. So it's a big thing and we are very grateful to get given an opportunity."

Gytrash is a $15 hope with BetEasy for The Everest with Nature Strip $3.50 favourite.

Richards said he takes encouragement in the fact his horse has taken it up to some of the best sprinters in the country already and been successful.

"He went to the Lightning without having any form around Nature Strip, Redzel, Loving Gaby and them and while he didn't blow them away, he took care of them," he said.

"He's a bit of a giant killer I guess."

Inglis Managing Director Mark Webster was thrilled Richards had agreed to join Inglis on The Everest journey.

Gytrash - a $40,000 Premier Yearling Sale graduate - is the third confirmed runner in the world's richest turf race, alongside fellow Inglis graduates Nature Strip (Premier Yearling Sale) and Classique Legend (Classic Yearling Sale).

"Gytrash ticks all the boxes, he's proven at the top level, his on-speed racing pattern is favourable, he's proven on both dry and wet tracks and in 19 career starts he's only been out of the top three once," Webster said.

"He really has become a giant killer of racing, you only need to look at the scalps he accrued during his autumn campaign to see that on his day, he is at the very least every bit as good as the other leading sprinters around.

"He's a lightly raced five-yaer-old who we believe is the best up-and-coming sprinter in the country and we can't wait for these next two months as we target The Everest with Gordon Richards and Gytrash's connections."
